Fire hazards are the most common hazard, which is present in areas of life. At work or at home, fire hazards are present and real. Many people do not realise how quickly a fire can spread, a small fire can become a large one in an extremely short amount of time. During the summer period the JC Health & Safety office held Basic Fire Awareness training for all lab technicians and the Biology Department respectively. Training was class based and hands-on, where all attendees handled fire extinguishers engaging in extinguishing live contained fires, exercised how to escape from a room engulfed in smoke and physically used fire blankets to put off a simulated kitchen fire.
All attendees will be given a certificate in Basic Fire Awareness Training.
