Junior College received funding from the European Parliament once more for 24 students to attend the Euroscola in Strasbourg on April 11, 2024. The group was accompanied by Mr Samuel Stellini and Mr Francesco Frendo from the Systems of Knowledge Department (SoK).
Each Euroscola session covers a different topic, this time around being that of “A Europe of equal opportunities? The EP’s defence of women’s rights and gender equality”.
The event took place in the Hemicycle, where Members of the European Parliament convene for plenary sessions. Dr.Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, delivered the opening remarks and encouraged students from all EU member states to get involved in politics, particularly with the elections approaching. This was followed by a Q&A session with Mr Dimitrios Papadimoulis, Vice President of the European Parliament, where students had the opportunity to ask him questions about how the EU fights climate change and gender inequality.
In a second session, participants discussed equal opportunities, women’s rights, and gender equality with expert Henry Alex Wasung from the Secretariat of the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality of the European Parliament. During the third session, the participants replicated the work of MEPs by engaging in a simulation exercise to discuss gender inequality.
As part of JC’s vision to encourage students’ cultural exposure, the group also visited the Cathedral of Our Lady of Strasbourg and the Strasbourg Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art.
This experience was coordinated by the JC International Office and the SoK Department.
