A group of language students from Junior College participated in a discussion "Europe in 24 Languages" about the role of languages in the EU institutions, which was held at Dar Europa, Valletta, on Wednesday 8 May 2024. The head of the European Parliament interpretation service, Agnieszka Walter-Drop spoke about the role of an interpreter, highlighting the benefits and challenges of this profession, before inviting the participants to practise interpreting a brief speech.
Ms Amy Colman, from the Department of Translation, Terminology and Interpreting Studies at the University of Malta, then explained the preparation and training required to become an interpreter.
The EU is proud to work in 24 languages, with all languages treated as equal. It offers a number of attractive career opportunities for students studying languages.
The students were accompanied by Dr Patricia vella Briffa, Area Coordinator for Languages & Communication.
