Throughout the summer months, the Counselling Service continued to provide support to first and second year students. We also collaborated with Student Advisory 福利在线免费 in supporting prospective applicants with their choice of subjects.
As a new scholastic year looms, new students may be apprehensive about their new experience at a new academic institution. For this reason, Mrs Fleur Mifsud Bons and Mrs Anna Maria Borg Bartolo, the Junior College (JC) Counselling 福利在线免费 Professionals, offered ten Transition Groups to those students who wished to attend. These were interactive sessions in which the students could introduce themselves, get to know each other and reflect on the new journey they are about to embark on. The students thoroughly enjoyed the sessions and they appreciated the space and opportunity to meet others like them and start new friendships. The students were then taken on a brief tour of the College to start familiarising them with the Campus.
A number of themes emerged from these groups which could shed light on the mindset of these new students. They spoke about their hopes, fears, how to achieve their goals and aspirations, as well as strengths and resources which could support them on their journey. A number of themes were identified which were very similar between groups, such as wanting to perform well academically, hoping to to make new friends, to feel integrated and to develop a sense of belonging, to be focussed and organised and to adapt well into the new system, amongst others. Students shared very similar fears around the transition to JC, such as the fear of not being able to cope with the demands of the subjects, of being overwhelmed, the fear of not fitting in and not making new friendships.
We hope that these groups have started their journey with us in a positive way and warmly welcome them into the JC community.
