Dr Joseph Chircop, Quality Coordinator within LING, the Translation Service at the General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union, spoke to our students about the role of the translation services to the Council of the European Union. Amongst other items, he explained the role of this institution within the whole set up and discussed the various work opportunities arising at the institution. He also highlighted the important role of translating within the EU context.
During this session the students had the opportunity to put forward their questions which regarded a wide variety of topics, such as, job opportunities and translation services at the EU, language combinations which would allow you to take up translation jobs within the EU, advantages and disadvantages of living and working in a foreign country among others. Dr Chircop encouraged the students to maintain their interest, increase their curiosity and to always retain an eagerness to learn more. He also reminded them of the traineeship programmes which would become available to them with a first degree.
