The Department of English at Junior College organized two events to celebrate World Poetry Day on the 21st of March.
In a well-attended “Meet the Poet” session, Dr Stringos and Mr Vanni Pule shared the inspirations behind their creative writing and read a selection of their own poems, before taking questions from students.
Dr Stringos and Dr Sammut conducted a writing workshop designed to introduce students to the art of writing haiku. The lively session saw students work on a number of prompts that gave them the confidence to write their own haikus.
World Poetry Day, declared by UNESCO in 1999, celebrates one of humanity’s most treasured forms of cultural and linguistic expressions. Poetry continues to bring people together across continents and is found in a myriad of forms throughout the world.
