The visit at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, part of the Euroscola educational initiative for young people aged 16 - 18 took place once again, on 14 March 2025. This was an incredible opportunity for the group of 24 JC students to experience the workings of the European Parliament first-hand. Students stepped into the shoes of MEPs on real European issues. This gave them a practical understanding of democracy and decision-making. These activities encouraged students to analyse policies, present arguments, and defend their viewpoints, improving debating and communication skills. Six of our students actively participated in parliamentary sessions, demonstrating their skills and enthusiasm. Students from across Europe gathered together in the hemicycle, promoting cultural awareness, teamwork, and a sense of European identity. It was a chance for our students to make international friendships.
Exploring Strasbourg was another highlight, with enchanting visits to Petit France quarter, followed by a trip to the Modern Art Museum. At the museum, students marveled at masterpieces, with a special moment spent appreciating Auguste Rodin's iconic sculpture The Thinker, which ignited discussions about art and philosophy.
The group was accompanied by Ms Gaynor Azzopardi Mercieca and Dr Sandra Mifsud Bonnici from the SOK department, who considered this trip to have been a valuable educational experience. They particularly appreciated and observed numerous discussions and camaraderie among the students, where a highly interactive meeting with educators from various countries provided a valuable platform for exchange.
This project is coordinated by the JC International Office, in collaboration with the SOK department of the Junior College, and financially supported by the European Parliament.
