Counselling services professionals Fleur Mifsud Bons and Jessica Saliba Thorne have successfully attended a job shadowing mobility in Finland. The mobility experience lasted a total of three days with an enriching and varied programme of activities organised by the partner school in Tampere, Finland -Tammerkosken lukio. The experience started with a student led tour around the school, where the two were introduced to the environment and school’s structure from the point of view of a student.
The school prepared different activities for our professionals to be able to experience first-hand, so as to better understand how the Finnish school system works. This was of particular interest to the participants as they were able to compare and contrast differences between the Maltese and Finnish education systems. The participants went on to observe the various wellbeing services within the school, which include those of the psychologist, school counsellor and career guidance. This allowed the participants to further explore these roles, which are similar to their line of work at the Junior College, in addition to discussing and sharing work experiences, hence allowing for an exchange of best practices between the two organisations. The job shadowing experience ensured to enhance practices that JC already has in place, and for the professionals to learn about what else could be helpful and what can be adopted within the College.
