Three members of staff attended a training course on “The Use of Artificial Intelligence in Education” at the Erasmus Learning Academy in Bologna between 31 August and 7 September 2025.
Dr Christina Zarb (Department of Mathematics) and Dott.ssa Mirielle Vila (Department of Psychology), together with Dr Elton Stivala (Department of English), participated in this week-long programme designed to introduce educators to practical applications of AI in teaching and learning. The course focused on how AI tools can foster creativity, streamline lesson planning, and encourage student engagement and reflection.
Throughout the sessions, participants explored a wide variety of tools and platforms. These included interactive applications such as Padlet for collaborative learning, Gamma for lesson presentation, and Magic School to support the design of engaging classroom activities. Emphasis was placed on the use of AI to generate quizzes, rubrics, and lesson ideas, as well as the integration of chatbots to provide timely student support and reduce educator workload.
The training also addressed critical issues related to AI in education, such as ethics, bias, and the importance of developing students’ digital literacy. Through workshops and hands-on practice, participants reflected on how these emerging technologies can be used responsibly to enrich teaching and promote inclusivity in the classroom.
This experience was co-funded through the Erasmus+ programme and coordinated by the JC International Office.
