Three members of staff attended a training course on “Effective Formative Assessment and Feedback Management in Education†at the Erasmus Learning Academy in Bologna between 7 and 13 September 2025.
Ms Josephine Mallia, Ms Louise Spiteri Fiteni from the Accounting Department, and Ms Juanita Gatt from the Department of Mathematics attended the week-long programme focusing on strengthening formative assessment practices and effective feedback strategies that encourage student reflection, autonomy, and motivation. Participants attending this course explored a variety of practical tools, including diagnostic methods, rubrics, visual organisers, and ICT-based platforms. Special emphasis was given to interactive and engaging approaches, such as digital learning logs on Padlet, KWL charts, and gamification tools like Blooket to make learning more dynamic.
A key highlight was the integration of artificial intelligence into assessment and teaching. The group experimented with tools such as Socrative for AI-assisted quizzes, Padlet TA and School AI for rubric design, as well as Gamma and Magic School to support lesson planning and presentations. They also explored training chatbots to enhance student support and streamline educator workload.
Overall, the course proved highly enriching, equipping our colleagues with innovative strategies and technologies they are eager to apply in their teaching to strengthen assessment and feedback practices across the College.
This experience is co-funded through the Erasmus+ programme and coordinated by the JC International Office.
