The JC Health and Safety Office is organising First Aid training for JC staff for 2024. All those members of staff who are interested can send an email to by no later than end of February 2024. We will contact those interested with the date and time of training accordingly.
Being a first aider does not imply any legal obligations. Hence administering first aid is on a voluntary basis. However, the employer is legally bound to have a first aid regime and first aiders in place, in accordance with Legal Notice 11 of 2002.
First aid is defined as: "Treatment for the purpose of preserving life and minimising the consequence of injury and illness until such help is obtained from a medical practitioner or nurse, and treatment of minor injuries which would otherwise receive no other treatment or which does not require treatment by a medical practitioner".
First aider is defined as: "A person who has received training and holds a valid certificate attesting qualifications issued by a first aid trainer."
A first aid certificate remains valid for 3 years from the date of issue. At the time of renewal, one needs to take a refresher course to get a new certificate. The refresher course should be completed within 28 days of the expiration date of the previous certificate.
