Junior College student Jacob Azzopardi and lecturer Renato Camilleri were part of the winning crew in this year鈥檚 prestigious Rolex Middle Sea Race, placing first in IRC Class 4. The race, which spans 606 nautical miles around Sicily, is known for its dramatic start in Valletta鈥檚 Grand Harbour and its challenging conditions.
Jacob shared his experience:
鈥淚t took us just over five days. The finish was incredibly close鈥攚e won by only 2 minutes and 25 seconds. We faced everything from calm seas to fierce winds, but through perseverance and teamwork, we made it. One great team, one fast boat, one inevitable outcome: success.鈥
Renato Camilleri, Chemistry subject coordinator, is also a well-established figure in Malta鈥檚 sailing scene. His blend of academic leadership and nautical expertise makes him a distinctive figure in both education and sport.
