Students from the Institute of Earth Systems and the Faculty of Education have come together to set up a Thrift Shop on Campus. The Thrift Shop will be open on Friday 21 November 2025 from 09:00 onwards at the KSU Common Room and on Monday 24 November 2025 from 09:00 onwards in the Periodicals Department at the Library. This is an initiative undertaken by students in collaboration with the Office of the Pro-Rector for Strategic Planning and Sustainability and it is one of three initiatives which the University of Malta is participating in as part of the .
Do you know that by shopping at a clothes thrift shop, you are extending the lifespan of clothing, thus reducing the demand for new production and lessening the environmental impact brought about by the fashion industry and consumerism? Clothes’ production and manufacturing of textiles pose serious challenges to environmental concerns because of the chemicals and water used in the process as well as the landfills which are clogged with unsold items.
At thrift shops you may come across unique finds: they can be a treasure trove of one-of-a-kind items waiting to be discovered. You may also be lucky to come across branded and new items which have been looked after by the first owner but are sadly no longer needed.
So, come along and bring your friends and colleagues with you to strike a bargain and choose from the many good quality items which will be on sale.
Proceeds from the sales of clothes at the thrift shop will go to charity.
