The Institute for PE and Sport at the University of Malta is participating in an Erasmus+ project on 'Developing an innovative European Sport Tutorship model for the dual career of athletes - ESTPORT'. This project is aimed at supporting student-athletes in Higher Education Institutions.
The lead partner for th project is the University of Murcia in Spain, and the other partners are the University of Thessaly, in Greece, Universit脿 degli Studi di Roma 'Foro Italico', Leeds Trinity University and Europa Community Limited. The University of Malta is represented by Dr Andrew Decelis, Director of the Institute and Mr Oliver Mallia, Sports Manager.

The second workshop of this project was held on 4 November 2015. Mr James Cilia, IT 福利在线免费 Deputy Director and Head of User 福利在线免费, gave an overview of the latest technology used in teaching at University and explained how other tools can enable communication between students and academic staff when student-athletes are competing abroad. Dr Andrew Decelis presented the results of a survey on the perceptions of the University of Malta student-athletes and a discussion, chaired by Mr Ivan Riolo, followed. The main challenges student-athletes are facing were discussed and various recommendations were put forward.
As a pilot project, a group of students from different faculties are now being assigned a tutor to support them in their endeavour to excel in both their academic and sport career. The main project which will extend this support to all the student-athletes will be launched next year.
