On the occasion of the World Oceans Day, which is celebrated annually on 8 June, the University of Malta, through Prof. Alan Deidun, resident academic at the Department of Geosciences, together with the International Ocean Institute (IOI), the Malta Tourism Authority and the environmental NGO Sharklab, invited Her Excellency The President of Malta Marie Louise Coleiro Preca to preside over an activity which was held last week at the Malta National Aquarium.
The event involved students from the St Paul’s Bay Primary School who availed themselves of a complimentary tour at the Aquarium, the screening of the MIA’s Filfla MPA documentary and a briefing on the Spot the Jellyfish and the Spot the Alien Fish citizen science campaigns. HE The President of Malta elaborated on SDG (Sustainability Development Goal) 14 which embodies the United Nations’ commitment towards healthy oceans.
Now in its third year, this celebration is being organised by the University of Malta at the Malta National Aquarium, with the aim of instilling a greater awareness vis-Ã -vis the role played by the oceans in our daily lives.
