A Recognition Ceremony was held on 14 May 2017, at the University of Malta Council Room, for students reading for the M.Sc. in Environmental Management and Sustainability; this is an International Collaborative Programme offered jointly by the University of Malta and James Madison University (Virginia, USA). The event celebrated students’ successful completion of the taught component of this programme.
Three student representatives—Carley Rice, Ciara Middleton, and Trevor Wilson—shared their personal insights regarding their experience in the programme. Prof. Louis F. Cassar, Director of the Institute of Earth Systems, also addressed the students. Students were then presented with their transcripts by Prof. Joseph Cacciottolo, Pro-Rector for Academic Affairs. Also present for the ceremony were various members of faculty who have lectured or supervised the students over the past academic year, members of the administrative staff, a representative of the US Embassy in Malta, and relatives and friends of the students. Mr Mario Cassar, who has been managing the administration of the International Collaborative Programmes for several years, served as Master of Ceremonies.
Over the next months, students will be working independently at a variety of sites in Malta and the United States to complete their research projects.
Applications for this programme for academic year 2017/18 are currently open; only few available places remain and interested students are therefore encouraged to contact the course coordinator, Dr Elisabeth Conrad, as soon as possible.
