Dr Emanuel Buttigieg, Senior Lecturer in the Department of History within the Faculty of Arts, was a guest speaker at the international conference 'Slavery of the Body and Slavery of the Soul: Church, Political Power and Slavery between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean (16th-18th centuries)' - Schiavit霉 del Corpo e Schiavit霉 dell'anima: Chiesa, Potere Politico e Schiavit霉 tra Atlantico e Mediterraneo (sec. XVI-XVIII).
This was organised by the 'Dies Accademicus' of the Accademia Ambrosiana, Milan.
Dr Buttigieg's paper was entitled 'Corpi e anime in schiavit霉: schiavi musulmani nella Malta dei Cavalieri di San Giovanni (1530-1798)'. This, along with the other contributions, will be published in the coming months in the 'Studia Borromaica' series published by the Accademia Ambrosiana.
