The 11th EUA Council for Doctoral Education (EUA-CDE) Thematic Workshop, entitled 'The Impact and Outcomes of Doctoral Education Reform in Europe', was held at the University of Malta, Valletta Campus on 18 and 19 January 2018. Academic leaders, heads of doctoral schools and doctoral education professionals from around Europe participated.
Key practices concerning doctoral education that have been introduced in a number of universities, such as institutional structures, doctoral supervision, transferable skills training and career development, and intersectoral collaboration, were discussed. Part of the discussion focused on how universities are building evidence-based decision-making processes by monitoring and evaluating the practices and structures that are in place for Doctoral Education.
The Workshop was addressed by the Rector of the University of Malta, Professor Alfred J. Vella and the Director of the Doctoral School, Professor Nicholas C. Vella.
The event was an enriching experience and provided an opportunity for the Doctoral School at the University of Malta to collaborate on an international level, with a record number of 138 participants.
