On 14 November 2017 Prof. Gloria Lauri-Lucente, Head of the Department of Italian (Faculty of Arts), and Dr Fabrizio Foni, lecturer in Italian, were invited to give a guest lecture to the students of Italian at Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary School in Naxxar. After providing the students with an overview of the B.A. degree in Italian, Prof. Lauri-Lucente and Dr Foni delivered a lecture on the intriguing relationship between Federico Fellini’s cinema and the world of comics.
As a follow-up to this lecture, the Department of Italian invited all those students interested in pursuing their degree in Italian to visit the University campus. On 14 December 2017, a group of students accompanied by their teachers were given a warm welcome at the Msida campus by Prof. Lauri-Lucente, Prof. Joseph Brincat, Prof. Joseph Pace-Asciak and Dr Foni.
After discussing the programme in Italian over coffee at the University canteen, the lecturers in Italian gave the students a brief tour of the campus. They then gathered in Sir Temi Zammit Hall and joined the first-year B.A. students in Italian for a lecture on ‘Introduzione al cinema’ (Introduction to Cinema) delivered by Dr Foni.
The visit proved to be a resounding success and the members of the Department of Italian would like to thank the teachers of Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary and their students for the enthusiasm they all expressed.
