The Maltese delegation with the conference organisers in Istanbul
A delegation of Maltese academics and teachers participated in various sessions during an International Conference on Early School Leaving at Maltepe University, Istanbul, Turkey held on 3 and 4 May 2018.
Prof. Carmel Borg and Prof. Carmel Cefai presented keynotes on early school leaving and social and emotional learning respectively, while Prof. Paul Bartolo and Prof. Carmel Cefai organised workshops on empathy and resilience.
Two Maltese teachers, Daniela Dimech and Maria Vella, and their trainer Denise Mizzi, presented their experiences on the strategies they are using in their classrooms to prevent early school leaving in middle schools.

The conference was organised by an Erasmus Plus project EMPAQT on the prevention of early school leaving through teacher education. The Centre for Resilience and Socio-Emotional Health at UM is a partner in this project.
