Professor Carmel J. Caruana, Head of the Medical Physics department at the Faculty of Health Sciences, was invited by the Coordinator of the international Master of Advanced Studies in Medical Physics at the , Trieste, Italy to deliver a presentation on Medical Physics Leadership and Education and Training for Medical Physicists.
The is a UNESCO institution and the international Master of Advanced Studies in Medical Physics is targeted to participants from countries where the Medical Physics profession is still in its infancy. Professor Caruana stated that "Now that the profession is quite well established in Malta, it's important to help those countries where the number of deaths in hospitals arising from the inappropriate use of sophisticated physics based medical equipment such as radiotherapy accelerators and CT scanners is a cause for worry".
