On 8 November, 2019 the organised a Dissertation Symposium for B.A. (Hons.) Public Administration and M.B.A. Executive (Public Management) students.
The event was addressed by , Head of Department, , Pro-Rector (International Development and Quality Assurance), and , Dean, Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy.
The forthcoming graduates reading for the two programmes, presented their dissertation findings through a video presentation.
Each student was asked to address three questions:
1) What was the objective of the study?
2) What instruments were used to carry out the research (methodology)?
3) What were the research findings?
Students were able to synthesize these three components in not more than three minutes. A video collating all the research presentations was then shown during the Symposium.
Topics researched by Public Administration students at undergraduate level included: energy conservation in State Schools; lessons learned from the establishment of the National Sports School; climate change adaptation policy in the viticulture sector; Malta's renewable energy targets for 2020; the introduction of the 360-Degree feedback in the Public Service of Malta; and the prevention of obesity.
MBA students investigated the following themes: the National Audit Office and good governance; inter-ministerial collaboration and service delivery for persons with disability; the management of post-secondary chemistry laboratories in public institutions; use and misuse of sick leave entitlement within the Malta Public Service; social enterprise; organisational change within the Ministry for Gozo; political leadership styles of Ministers responsible for Gozo; and, the assessment of leadership and motivation levels within the Gozo College and the Grand Harbour Regeneration Corporation.
