Dr Rose Marie Azzopardi, from the Department of Economics, was invited by the International Labour Organization (ILO), to attend a seminar on Maternity Protection in celebration of the 100 years since the first convention on the subject. The event was held at the ILO headquarters in Geneva on 8 November 2019.
ILO is also celebrating its centenary anniversary. The seminar included global experts and policymakers and featured experiences from different countries across the world. It discussed how 100 years after the first convention on maternity protection there are still over 800 million women worldwide who do not have such protection.
The event was organised in collaboration with the European Union and other international partners. The topics discussed also included different types of care and leave policies.
Dr Azzopardi is an economist who conducts research on females in the labour market.
