The within the Faculty of ICT has been pro-active and persistent for a number of years in organising and participating in a variety of initiatives to reach out to potential applicants.
Means of reaching out include a series of information sessions and outreach programme.
Members of the academic staff go out to secondary and post-secondary schools around Malta and Gozo meeting students at all levels to engage them, sensitise them towards technology, inspire them through the demonstration of students’ projects, hands-on activities and use of hardware like robots, smart phones, drones, and VR-kits.
These efforts have resulted in increased student numbers over the last years that provided further incentive to extend the outreach programme and strengthen the department and it work.
The department pursued its information sessions with students from government, church and private schools even through the current physical lockdown and social distancing measures currently in force.
Interactive video-conferencing conferencing provided by the University enabled the department to persist in its outreach efforts by addressing young students over the Online medium presenting videos, showcasing project artefacts, and sharing Augmented Reality projections onto their computer screens.
Students asked questions, enquired about entry requirements, and queried the academics about the subject matter but also about career prospects and subject choices. Such information sessions have been going on since March, through April with others scheduled for May and June 2020.
