The journal, which is issued three times a year by Edinburgh University Press, publishes a range of creative and creative-critical work by established and emerging writers and academics. Five to eight pieces are featured in each number, including at least one interview, a review article and at least one creative piece.
Each issue of CounterText either focuses on a particular theme or explores general topics that are relevant to the concerns of the journal. The pieces it publishes are informed by perspectives drawn from literary criticism, cultural criticism, philosophy and political theory, making it of interest to a wide audience.
A Fifth Anniversary virtual collection has been put together by the two UM academics to celebrate the occasion.
This special edition, which includes a number of highlights from previous issues, is freely accessible to the general public until the end of 2020, however all material published in CounterText is available to UM staff and students through the UM Library.
“The fifth anniversary of the launch of CounterText is something of a milestone for us. The journal has come a long way over the years, and has, I’m pleased to say, established itself as a reference point for scholars around the world working in contemporary literature and literary theory. This is testament both to the quality of the research that we publish, which has found a broad readership across the humanities, and also to a great editorial team made up of colleagues who enthusiastically contribute their extraordinary expertise to each and every issue. The University of Malta has a long history of punching above its weight, and I think that CounterText is a compelling example of this,” says Prof. Corby, Head of the Department of English.
Those wishing to view this collection must register with the EUP site to be able to access the articles.
