from the Department of Art & Art History, has been appointed by the Society of Architectural Historians (SAH) to serve on the 2021 Alice Davis Hitchcock Book Award Committee.
Established in 1949, the Award recognises the most distinguished work of scholarship in the history of architecture published by a North American scholar. It is the oldest of the six different publication awards given annually by the Society and is named after the mother of the architectural historian Henry-Russell Hitchcock.
The award consists of a certificate and citation that will be presented at the Society's 2021 Annual Conference in Montreal, Canada, and announced in the Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians and the Newsletter of the Society.
Prof. Thake is one of three scholars who are on the Committee. The committee is composed of members of SAH, who have published monographs themselves, and whose specialisations cover a range of aspects of the built environment.
He graduated with a PhD in Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley, after graduating in Architecture & Civil Engineering from the University of Malta and successfully earning an MA in Urban Planning from the University of Waterloo, Canada.
He has co-authored a number of publications, such as two volumes of Malta – The Baroque Island (2003) and Malta – War & Peace, an Architectural Chronicle 1800-2000 (2005), and has published work in several prestigious international journals such as ’A, Demetra, Palladio and Spazio e Societa’.
