On July 27, 28, and 29, the Department of Counselling organised a 4.5 hours long online continued professional development (CPD) course for which 155 helping professionals attended.
The CPD course was delivered by Prof. Andrew Reeves, a Senior BACP Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist, Registered Social Worker, Fellow of BACP and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in the UK.
Prof. Reeves argued for a relational-explorative approach to working with suicide risk in helping relationships. The first 1.5 hours addressed the context of working with risk; the next 1.5 hours expanded on personal impact and countertransference; while the final 1.5 hours explored suicide potential and the creation of a safety plan with clients.
Our next training will be Relational Trust in the Helping Professions and will be delivered by world renowned expert on professional ethics and standards Prof. Tim Bond.
