It’s that type of face covering that’s become compulsory in many places, which everyone has many different versions of, some plain, some patterned, some disposable, some reusable.
But are we supposed to pronounce it as ‘maskla’, or ‘maskr²¹â€™?
The word derives from the Italian word ‘maschera’, and according to the Maltese/English dictionary by Joseph Aquilina, the ‘r’ version is the correct one.
And since that's settled, the Marketing, Communications & Alumni Office is writing to let you know that the second consignment of UM-branded maskri have arrived.
They will be available for collection as of Tuesday, 24 November 2020 from the Reception Desk at the Main Administration Building, between 08:00 and 16:00.
A few things to keep in mind:
- Only 1 mask can be picked up per staff member
- Those who are not yet in possession of a UM-branded mask will be given preference
- A minimum donation of €2 will be collected upon exchange of the mask (but hey, bigger donations are welcome!)
