A new memorandum called ‘Making Our Voice Heard’ was written by the Faculty for Social Wellbeing to the Rector, Pro-Rectors, Registrar, Council and candidates for Rectorate in response to the announcement that the Rector Election will be held in March 2021.

“As a Faculty, we believe that the University of Malta is at a crossroads. Each Rectorate represents a new phase in the life of the Alma Mater and hence the need for us to come together in consultation and discussion, gathering and sharing our thoughts for the future”, said the memo.

Among the suggestions being made through this memo, the Faculty proposes that the University should be focused on democratising knowledge and providing an evidence-based ‘voice’, it should be a safe space whereby all feel comfortable debating openly, it should craft more spaces for the effervescent student body to engage in this community, and savour academic traditions while using contemporary and technological platforms to take our University forward.

The memorandum was issued following consultation amongst the academic body, administrative teams, students, research support officers, casuals, part-timers, dissertation supervisors and placement teachers within the Faculty.

It has also been validated by the College of Heads of Department, the Faculty Board and the Office of the Dean and Deputy Deans.
