Prof. Adriana Vella and her team from the Department of Biology at the University of Malta have contributed to the scientific knowledge on local and Mediterranean dolphins and whales. This information is vital for the marine species conservation.
The recently released special issue on the Endangered Mediterranean Delphinus delphis is another important contribution to the conservation of this dolphin species in this region.

As part of this long-term cetacean and marine biodiversity research, Prof. Adriana Vella has also collaborated with various local stakeholders including the AFM, fishermen, interested sea-users, the NGO (The Biological Conservation Research Foundation) and Transport Malta – Maritime Section, which have all encouraged the continuation of this research.
