Chev, Prof. Laurent Seychell, former Head of the Department of French at the University of Malta has published his latest translated book, titled ‘Approches de la linguistique’, or ‘Il-Lingwistika fl-Approwċjar Tagħha’.
The book, which was authored by Véronique Shott-Bourget, is composed of 578 pages, within which are 237 notes written by the translator in both French and Maltese, serving as its traductologie (translation studies).
This is a characteristic of Prof. Seychell’s past publications, whether it was a question of versions or thèmes (translation passages from French into Maltese or the other way round).
Apart from the normal translation from French to Maltese, this particular book is based on seven Grammars whereby Prof. Seychell focuses on the application of linguistics to literature, thus showing to critics a new approach of criticising the authors’ style regarding the latter.
In France, this new way of criticising literature has been in fashion since the seventies and nowadays it goes together with the traditional way of criticising literature or it replaces the latter thoroughly.
