Professors, doctoral candidates and students from across the SEA-EU Consortium, the group of coastal universities across Europe with a vision to establish an international, pluri-ethnic European University with strong links between teaching, research, innovation and knowledge transfer, convened virtually to discuss the value of research in creating a better future for academia and society as a whole.
Prof. Jose A. Munoz from the University of Cadiz in Spain delivered an opening speech for the event, saying he is lucky enough to work in something that is like a hobby to him. He said he particularly loves the research world because finding the answer to a scientific question means there are more questions around the corner waiting to be answered.
Christine Hili, a doctoral candidate from the Department of Midwifery at the University of Malta also participated in the webinar. Her contribution revolved around data collection, saying that whilst virtual data collection is valuable, collecting experiences face-to-face might be more ideal for certain kinds of studies. The pandemic, she said, posed unprecedented challenges to researchers trying to collect data, urging them to think more creatively than ever.
