Prof. Ing. Simon Fabri was appointed as Pro-Rector for Research and Knowledge Transfer during the last University Senate meeting held on 23 September 2021, succeeding Pro-Rector Prof. Ing. Saviour Zammit.
Prof. Ing. Fabri holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Malta (1989), an MSc degree in Control Systems Engineering (1995) as well as a PhD degree, both from the University of Sheffield, UK (2000). He commenced his career as a Test and Product Engineer with ST Microelectronics from before joining the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Malta in January 1992, where he became a Professor with the Department of Systems and Control Engineering. His teaching and research activities focus on Automatic Control and Systems Engineering.
Fabri has occupied various administrative roles throughout experience here at the University of Malta, including Head of the Dept. of Electrical Power and Control Engineering and later on Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. He has been involved in a number of University boards and committees.
His research interests see him involved in areas such as adaptive and intelligent control systems, neural networks, nonlinear and stochastic control, and more … He is a member of the International Journal of Systems Science editorial board. Fabri has authored the Springer book “Functional Adaptive Control: An Intelligent Systems Approach” as well as numerous other peer-reviewed publications.
Prof. Ing. Fabri forms part of the IEEE - Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, a member of the Government Engineering Profession Board and is also a holder of the Maltese Engineering Warrant.
