The University of Malta is pleased to announce that it has recently entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation based in Kuwait.
The Foundation focuses on creating a culture of peace, particularly in the Euro-Arab context through, inter alia, cooperation with academia.
The cooperation between the University of Malta and Albabtain Foundation was promoted by HE Dr George Vella, President of Malta, who introduced the work of the Centre for the Study & Practice of Conflict Resolution at the University to the Albabtain Foundation. Through the good offices of the Office of the President, the Director of the Centre Dr Omar Grech and the Director of the Foundation Professor Touhami Abdouli held meetings where they discussed the ways in which the two sides could develop their collaboration.

These discussions then led to the signing of the MOU by the Rector, Professor Alfred Vella and the Chairperson of the Albabtain Foundation Mr Abdulaziz Albabtain. The MOU provides for the establishment of an Abdulaziz Albabtain Endowment for Peace at the University of Malta’s Centre for the Study & Practice of Conflict Resolution.
The Endowment consists of an annual fund to be used for a number of purposes, including the provision of a full scholarship for a student to pursue the Dual Degree Masters programme in Conflict Resolution and Mediterranean Security which is offered by the University through the Centre together with George Mason University’s Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution.
Moreover, the Endowment will also establish an annual academic seminar focusing on ‘Building a Culture of Peace’ as well as the Annual Albabtain Distinguished Lecture on Peace-making. Finally, the Endowment allows for academic exchanges between Malta and Kuwait.
