On Friday 19 November 2021, from 16:00 to 18:00, the Faculty of Education Doctoral Committee organised its final doctoral seminar for this calendar year. The event took place at the Arrupe Hall, Mount St. Joseph Retreat House in Mosta.
Hosted by the newly appointed Chairperson Prof. Suzanne Piscopo, the seminar was divided into three parts. The first part was dedicated to Dr. Doreen Mizzi, the first keynote speaker who delivered her presentation titled “Supporting science teachers teaching outside their area of specialism: Teachers’ views of a professional development programme”.
Subsequently, as the second part of the seminar, the second key-note speaker, Ms Therese Camilleri, presented an aspect of her ongoing doctoral research “The challenges and pitfalls of writing a context chapter on the adoption of a learning outcomes approach in apprenticeship in Malta”. At the end of the presentation, the floor was opened for questions and comments from the audience. A number of academics, doctoral graduates and other educators participated in the congenial, provocative, yet also intellectually stimulating discussion.
The final part of the seminar gave the attendees an opportunity to network and share professional insights, queries and solutions over some light refreshments.
A gift was presented to Prof. Simone Galea, the outgoing Chairperson, as a token of appreciation for her work and commitment during her tenure.
The next Faculty of Education doctoral seminar is planned for late January 2022. More details to come in the new year.
