The annual Pathology Prize-giving Ceremony for Medical Undergraduates was held on September 24, 2021. This occasion is organised by the in collaboration with the Malta College of Pathologists and it rewards the hard work of 3 students who got top marks in the Pathology final exam held during the third year of their medical school studies.
This year Ms Emma Mifsud placed first in class and first in Viva winning the Malta College of Pathologists’ Prize, whilst Ms Abigail Martine Spiteri and Ms Harley Schembri received the Department of Pathology Prizes for placing second and third in class respectively. Prizes were presented by Dr James Degaetano as President of the Malta College of Pathologists and Prof Alex Gatt as Head of Department of Pathology. Whilst the students were congratulated for their success, it was highlighted that this year this was even more extraordinary due to the various spanners that the current COVID19 pandemic threw in our academic machinery!
The Head of Department stressed the importance of Pathology within Medicine and also expressed a wish that students continue to consider the various Pathology subspecialties as their future carriers. Refreshments sponsored by AM Mangion Ltd were served following the current Public Health guidance.
