An intensive week-long workshop titled 'Research Retreat!' was organised by the Department of Nursing for Masters’ degree students between 7 and 11 February 2022 with the participation of the Department’s MSc in Nursing Dissertation Supervisors, in collaboration with Professor Odette Griscti from Cape Breton University (Nova Scotia, Canada). This research workshop was designed to stimulate motivation and encourage innovative research interests amongst graduate nursing students reading for a Master of Science qualification in Nursing. The students were guided through the process and stages of developing and writing a research proposal.
The final day of the Research Retreat sought to empower students to present the research concepts which caught their interest and to engage in reflexive discussions during a blended (concurrent virtual and physical) discussion forum between students and faculty staff. Students shall continue receiving guidance and continued support by way of an online discussion forum on the University’s virtual learning portal (VLE) until all students submit their Research Proposal in next month.
This initiative was organised and moderated throughout by Dr Roderick Bugeja, co-ordinator of the Masters programme in Nursing Studies offered at the University of Malta (UM). The workshop forms part of the strategy of the Department of Nursing, within the Faculty of Health Sciences at the UM, as a key contributor to national research in the health and social care arena.
