On Wednesday 25 May, the annual seminar featuring students in the Malta cohort of the Erasmus Mundus International Master in Adult Education for Social Change, took place in room 204 of the Campus Hub at University.
This annual event, as usual convened by Professor Peter Mayo, was held under the auspices of the Department of Arts, Open Communities & Adult Education for which department members and other Faculty members were present. The meeting was addressed by the Faculty Dean, , and the opening session featured as keynote speaker, Dr Michael Murray from the National University of Ireland at Maynooth. The keynote, in the form of a debate involving all present, focused on the question: Adult Education for social justice or reproduction.
Three presentations by IMAESC students followed. The first was by Abbie Hebein (USA) and Dania Zamudio (Mexico) on the Citizenship Diplomacy Action Fund Project for which they had applied and were successful. The second, more philosophical in tenor, was by Dorina-Alina Besleaga (Moldova) on Critical Reflection in Adult Education for Social Change while the concluding session was by Nishat Tasneem (Bangladesh) on Learning (s) from within the Prison. An analysis of an adult educator鈥檚 experiences, action and reflection, based on an activity she carried out at the Corradino Correctional Facility concerning the teaching of English.
A fourth presentation, by Tania Aramburo Muro (Mexico) on Edgar Morin鈥檚 complexity theory in Education was cancelled as a result of a last minute call for students to travel to Estonia and back to settle Visa issues. Tallinn is the students' next destination in this international programme. The partners in this programme are the University of Glasgow (lead partner), University of Malta, NUI Maynooth, Open University of Cyprus and Tallinn University. The programme started in academic year 2016-2017. Four cohorts graduated from the programme thus far with a fifth graduating in December. This cohort will graduate the following year.
