From the 18 to 22 July 2022, five student nurses from the Department of Nursing within the Faculty of Health Science, L-Universit脿 ta' Malta, joined the 90th Pilgrimage to Lourdes led by Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna and organised by G魔aqda Maltija g魔at-Trasport tal-Morda f鈥橪ourdes (UMTAL).
These students served as volunteers, assisting wheelchair-bound people and those with diverse requirements during trips to and from Lourdes, as well as transportation in Lourdes to other religious celebration places. These included the Grotto of Apparitions, the Via Crucis for less able bodied persons and the Au Flambeaux Procession as well as a daily Mass and an International Holy Mass.
Volunteers were also allocated to give assistance round the clock to pilgrims who were more dependent and needed to be hosted in a specially designed hospital. Volunteer students worked in shifts and in teams under the direct supervision of qualified nurses who were also volunteers.
