On the 22nd September, 2022, Prof Renald Blundell from the University of Malta, visited the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology of the University of Gdansk (UG) and the Medical University of Gdansk (MUG). The Faculty is a unique entity in Poland in that it was formed by two universities. This encourages an interdisciplinary nature of research that combines biomedical and bio-molecular issues and their applications in biotechnology for the improvement of health and quality of life.

The Faculty has a number of core facility laboratories including top class Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) laboratory for highly infectious pathogens, laboratory of biomolecular analysis, laboratory of mass spectrometry, laboratory of genetic analysis, laboratory of imaging and data analysis, laboratory of in vitro plant cultures, and laboratory of single-cell analysis.

During this visit, Prof. Blundell had a meeting with the Dean of the Faculty Prof Ewelina Krol, Vice Dean Prof. Anna Zaczek and Anna Ihnatowicz, PhD that is responsible for Erasmus exchange students within the faculty to discuss various options for collaboration which includes, the exchange of academics and students for research projects, attending the biotechnology summer school that is organized by the Faculty on the yearly basis, establishment of research collaborations within biotechnology between both universities.
