Prof. Sally Seidel of the University of New Mexico, USA, is visiting the UM Department of Physics this academic year as a Fulbright Scholar. Since its creation in 1946, over 400,000 Fulbrighters from the United States and 165 countries have studied, taught and been part of research in each other鈥檚 countries.
Prof. Seidel is a particle physicist and a member of an experiment, ATLAS, at the CERN Large Hadron Collider that seeks to understand the properties of the most fundamental constituents of nature. While at UM she is teaching the undergraduate students in the area of particle physics at the Department of Physics. On 12 October 2022, Prof. Seidel engaged citizens in a public talk, "Discovering New Particles", at , held at Spazju Kreattiv, Valletta.
On 21 October 2022, she visited Year 11 Physics classes at St. Ignatius College Secondary School in 摩andaq, where she spoke about "The Beauty of Particle Physics" and took questions from an enthusiastic cohort of about 60 young people.
