The International Office recently welcomed the four students awarded scholarships aimed at Palestinian and Tunisian nationals.
The scholarships are designed to facilitate the formation of young Palestinian and Tunisian professionals in key areas. They are a joint collaboration between the University of Malta and the Government of Malta, through the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade and funded through the Government of Malta’s Official Development Assistance Programme, which aims to promote solidarity, and to provide the necessary assistance in a number of key areas including education and human capacity development.
The scholarships awarded this year cover two programmes - the Masters of Arts in Humanitarian Action and the Master of Arts in Conflict Resolution and Mediterranean Security.
This year’s scholarship holders are Ala’ Abu Rmielah (Palestine), Hashem Rafik Hilles (Palestine), Jasser Hammami (Tunisia) and Cyrine Cheikh (Tunisia). The Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade, the Embassy of Malta in Tunisia and the Representative Office of Malta in Ramallah (Palestine) collaborate closely with the University of Malta’s International Office and the respective academic departments to manage these programmes which have been running successfully since 2014. So far 15 Palestinian students and 7 Tunisian students have benefited from these scholarships.
