On Monday 7 November 2022 a panel discussion was held to discuss the European Convention on Human Rights. Organised by the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade, the Institute for European Studies and the Department of European and Comparative Law along with three student organisations, namely the , the European Law Students' Association (ELSA) and the (ESO). The event focused on a discussion of the history of the Convention as well as the current and future challenges that the Convention faces.
The event was opened by Prof. Mark Harwood, Director of the Institute for European Studies, H.E. Mr Lorenzo Vella, Malta's Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe, and H.E. Mr Bjorn Berge, Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe.
The panel discussions were moderated by the student organisations with Mr Andrew Drago (GhSL) moderating the first panel (which included the Chief Justice Emeritus Dr Vincent De Gaetano, the Hon. Madam Justice Consuelo Scerri Herrera and the Hon. Mr Justice Francesco Depasquale) while Mr Luca Camilleri (ELSA) moderated the second panel (which included the Hon. Madam Justice Lorraine Schembri Orland, the State Advocate Dr Christopher Soler, Ms Claire Ovey and Dr Francesca Camilleri Vettiger). The event was closed by Prof. Ivan Sammut, Head of the Department of European and Comparative Law and by H.E Ambassador Lorenzo Vella.
