Malta's Commissioner for Children, Ms Antoinette Vassallo, delivered a keynote address on the centrality of the protection of children, and Ms Ruth Calleja gave an Oration on behalf of her peers. The deans of the two faculties, and respectively, addressed the event and presented the certificates to the graduates. The evening was enriched by musical interludes by Mr Matthew Fenech and Mr Valhmor Montfort. organised the event with the assistance of from the Office of the Faculty of Theology.
This Certificate is a one-year inter-faculty course of the Faculty of Theology and the Faculty for Social Wellbeing, offered in collaboration with the Safeguarding Commission. It aims at introducing participants to the main standards of safeguarding of minors and equipping them with the basic knowledge and skills to promote the welfare of minors, to recognise and respond effectively to abuse, and to understand the depth of traumas caused by abuse. The programme presents students with key principles of self-care and of fundamental ethical and legal obligations for working with minors in different settings.
