The Faculty of Engineering and the National School Support 福利在线免费, in collaboration with the Malta Chamber of Engineers organised a half-day seminar for guidance teachers. The seminar was held on the 28 February and 35 guidance teachers from various schools in Malta and Gozo visited the Faculty of Engineering where they participated in talks and various lab tours. The training session kicked off with a presentation about the Engineering profession, delivered by Dr Ing. Bonnie Attard and Ing. Robert Busuttil, during which Dr Ing. Attard explained the various facets of Engineering and the different ways through which Engineers contribute to society. Ing. Busuttil then shared his experiences as an engineer working in industry, highlighting the ways with which the Engineering degree and background helped to shape his professional career.
Teachers were then divided into smaller groups, with one teacher within each group assigned the role of a "reporter". Each teacher group visited different laboratories within the Faculty to obtain a better understanding of the facilities, research and teaching activities that take place within the Faculty. These tours also provided guidance teachers the opportunity to ask questions to the various academic, technical and research staff stationed with each laboratory.
Following the laboratory tours, the teachers re-grouped for a final talk delivered by Dr Alexandra Bonnici. In this talk, Dr Bonnici outlined the courses offered by the Faculty of Engineering and the entry route requirements for students to follow these courses. Through the "reporters" the teachers could then share their experiences of the laboratories visited.
Feedback collected from the participating teachers after the training session was very positive and encouraging, further strengthening the ties that the Faculty of Engineering has with the guidance community in secondary schools in Malta and Gozo.
The Faculty would like to thank the efforts of Ms Dorianne Gravina and her team whose support was essential for this training session to take place.
