For the last thirty years, MATSEC has issued qualifications which are valid, reliable and fair; these are recognised internationally. MATSEC would like to clarify its position regarding MUT鈥檚 statement on the Secondary Education Applied Certificate (SEAC) where it claims that MATSEC has unilaterally decided to terminate the SEAC qualification. Currently, there are circa 2,000 candidates studying an applied vocational subject at this level. Therefore, it is clear that MATSEC will continue to honour its commitment to certify these candidates.
In November 2022, the MUT directed its members to refrain from collecting evidence in the form of video and photographic recordings of practicals conducted by candidates to fulfil a substantial part of their assessment (30% in SEC VET subjects and 50% in SEAC VET subjects).
This evidence is in line with international assessment practices of vocational subjects. Failing to verify the practicals through evidence from the recordings would invalidate the assessment, and therefore, render the qualification worthless. MATSEC Board is actively discussing how to resolve this deadlock which the MUT directive has precipitated.
