University of Malta students, staff and external stakeholders are invited to for the University Forum on the Blue Ocean Economy to be held on 23 March, at 12:00, online. The forum is organised in partnership with the and is part of the series of University Industry Fora hosted by the Rector, Prof Alfred J Vella.
The Forum on the Blue Ocean Economy resonates with the University of Malta's mission to empower the nation and to bring innovation into all aspects of operations, including management, training and research. The Forum reflects the objectives on industry impact in the University of Malta Strategic Plan 2020-2025.
The Forum on the Blue Ocean Economy will be led by experts from University academia and external stakeholders. The speakers will share insights on activities across the University and the economic area that reflect developments in this area.
The discussion will be moderated by Prof Tanya Sammut-Bonnici, Pro-Rector for Strategic Planning and Enterprise. Prof Joseph M Cacciottolo, Pro-Rector for Academic Affairs and Prof Ing Simon G Fabri, Pro-Rector for Research and Knowledge Transfer will engage in the discussion, bringing out elements of curriculum, training and research.
Perit Karmenu Vella, Emeritus EU Commissioner Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Vice Chancellor and President of the Council of the University of Malta, will discuss the Blue Ocean Economy and the European Policy on maritime and fisheries.
Prof Dr Norman A Mart铆nez Guti茅rrez, Director of the IMO-International Maritime Law Institute, Malta, will focus his intervention on the role of education in developing international maritime cooperation.
Prof Simone Borg, Ambassador for Climate Action Malta, Department of Environmental and Resources Law, University of Malta, will illustrate the conservation of high seas living resources through sustainable use.
Dr Marie Briguglio, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Economics, University of Malta, will reflect on the economic value of the marine environment and the Ecoscope project.
Prof Alan Deidun, Ocean Ambassador for Malta and Rector's Delegate for SEA-EU, Department of Geosciences, University of Malta, will showcase the SEA-EU Alliance as an example of the relevance of European University Alliances to the Maritime Sector.
Prof Adriana Vella, Chair of the UM Maritime Platform, Department of Biology, Faculty of Science, University of Malta, will elaborate on the multidisciplinary identity and intersectoral approach of the UM Maritime Platform.
