The is proud to announce the formation of a new committee as from January 2023. The scope of the UM Maritime Platform is to create more interfaculty synergies between academics specialised in maritime and marine aspects and develop intersectoral collaborations and training with the relevant industry partners and stakeholders.
is the newly appointed Chairperson of the University of Malta Maritime Platform (UMP). Prof. Vella thanked the outgoing Chairperson for her years of tireless energy in setting up the University Maritime Platform and expressed confidence that 鈥渢he platform will continue to share the common goal of addressing the knowledge growth of marine and maritime science.鈥 In bringing together a pool of diverse and committed experts, Prof. Vella remarked how 鈥渢he platform will deepen its commitment to address the emerging multidisciplinary dynamics of the maritime and marine sector to strengthen its intersectoral bridges which span across various ministries, government agencies, and relevant private stakeholders.鈥

Through the setting-up of six targeted Action Groups, i.e., Research, Education, Industrial Liaison, Funding, Outreach and Consultation, the University Maritime Platform will be working collaboratively with stakeholders by also inviting two additional external members from the private and/or government sectors to join the platform鈥檚 committee. These pillars of action frame the platform鈥檚 ongoing and concerted efforts to best represent the University of Malta as a point of reference for maritime and marine related domains and remain relevant for both the national or international community interests and needs in the blue sector.
Membership to University Maritime Platform is open all year round to academic members of staff with a maritime and marine interest and who are willing to contribute towards the objectives of the platform.
