The Department of Health Systems Management and Leadership, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Malta has organised a full-day workshop titled "Sustainable Healthcare Supply Chain and Circular Economy: Planning and Operations" at the beginning of the second semester, at the Faculty Board Room. The facilitator of the workshop was Prasanta Kumar Dey, Professor of Operations Management, at Aston Business School, Aston University, Birmingham, UK. The interactive workshop was attended by an interdisciplinary group of healthcare professionals who together worked on real scenarios within the Maltese healthcare system and proposed solutions for improvement and sustainable supply chains.
The workshop was also addressed by Professor Sandra C. Buttigieg, Head of Department of Health Systems Management and Leadership, who on the subject areas of sustainable healthcare and circular economy, and on the invitation by the Department of Radiography, has actively participated in the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union SAFE Europe - Safe and Free Exchange of EU Radiography Professionals across Europe. She is a co-author of two manuscripts as part of this participation, namely A review of current research on circular economy and applicability to hospital practice by Isabel Bravo, Ana Lu铆sa Ferreira Soares, Sandra C. Buttigieg, Bartosz Bak, Sonyia Mc Fadden, Ciara Hughes, Patricia McClure, Guilherme Couto and accepted for publication in the International Journal of Health Policy and Management; and "An evaluation of knowledge of circular economy among Therapeutic Radiographers/Radiation Therapists (TR/RTTs): Results of a European survey to inform curriculum design" by Ana Lu铆sa Ferreira Soares, Sandra C. Buttigieg, Guilherme Couto, Bartosz Bak, Sonyia Mc Fadden, Ciara Hughes, Patricia McClure, Rodrigues, Isabel Bravo and published in the Elsevier Journal Radiography in March 2023.
