The , University of Malta has organised a Public Lecture entitled “Human Factors and Patient Safety in Healthcare - Tips for Everyone†on the 4 May 2023, at Mater Dei Hospital. The main speaker of the public lecture was Dr Marie Ward, Health Systems Researcher, St James Hospital, Dublin & Adjunct Assistant Professor, Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland. The interactive lecture was attended by an interdisciplinary group of healthcare professionals.
5/5/2023 - Workshop - Dr Marie Ward - Human Factors in Healthcare – Taking a systems approach to Patient Safety
The , , University of Malta has organised a full-day workshop titled "Human Factors in Healthcare – Taking a systems approach to Patient Safety" on the 5 May 2023, at VC102. The facilitator of the workshop was Dr Marie Ward, Health Systems Researcher, St James Hospital, Dublin & Adjunct Assistant Professor, Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland. The interactive workshop was attended by an interdisciplinary group of healthcare professionals who together worked on real scenarios within the Maltese healthcare system and proposed solutions for improvement.
The workshop was also addressed by , Head of Department of Health Systems Management and Leadership.
Prof. Marie Ward is an embedded HFE researcher at Ireland’s largest acute teaching hospital - St James's Hospital Dublin – where she is engaged in a programme of Human Factors and systems research and improvement. She received the IEA Liberty Mutual Medal in 2012 for her post-doc work in aviation safety. Dr Ward is an Adjunct Assistant Professor with the Centre for Innovative Human Systems and lecturer on the Masters in Managing Risk and System Change (TCD); lecturer on the RCSI Masters in Human Factors in Patient Safety; a committee member of the Irish Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (IHFES); a member of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (UK) special interest group on AI in healthcare; a collaborator on the Mater Lean Academy training programme and a founding member of the Irish Safety in Health Systems Interest Group (established 2014). She is a member of the IEA Healthcare Ergonomics Technical Committee.
